• Bevel Profiles

    CF / CB / A

Center Face, Center Bevel Center bevel has become the standard for cutting most materials. Standard edge angle: 53°

    SF / SB / B

Side Face, Single Bevel, Side Bevel Side bevel is best suited for cutting thick materials where a straight/vertical cut is required.

    CFDB / LCB / AA

Center Face Double Bevel, Long Center Bevel Long center bevel helps to reduce the cutting force when cutting hard/thick materials such as glass fiber reinforced laminates, leather, cork, rubber, jigsaw puzzles, corrugated board, plastics, plywood.

    SFDB / LSB / BB

Side Face Double Bevel, Long Side Bevel Long side bevel offers the same benefits as CFDB bevel when cutting thicker materials. The substrate is left with a square 90° cut edge, and all the distortion from penetration is left on the scrap side.

    Bevel Execution

    Shaved Edge (S)

Shaved Edge is the standard bevel finish of Bohler cutting rule.  It is a precision drawn quality surface bevel. These rules benefit from excellent bendability and height consistency.

Ground Edge (G) / Extra Sharp (ES)

Ground edge is the best option for “kiss cutting”, plastics, rubber, laminates, and coated materials. The sharper edge results in cleaner cuts, less knife wear, and easy material penetration, while at the same time reducing the cutting pressure.

    Polished Edge (P) / Reflexion (R)

Polished edge rule combines the benefits of shaved edge and ground edge in one rule.  Polished edge rule is available in CB, SB, LCB, and LSB.
    • Reduced dusting
    • Less friction when cutting substrates, thus reducing cutting pressure.
    • Improved bending properties compared with ground edge.
    • Rounded transition zone between bevel and body prevents material cracking.
    • Suited well for both paper and synthetic materials.
  • The packaging industry is in a permanent search for innovative designs and materials. The trend for UV-laminated and/or metallized boards, as well as, plastic packs require new solutions in die cutting. To cope with these demands Bohler has developed a series of cutting rules, Label-X and Plast-X. These cutting rules are processed on a unique prototype grinding machine applying razor blade technology, granting a super sharp cutting edge with a superfine ground bevel (RA = 0.08 μm). These properties are important for efficient high-quality die cutting of plastic materials, foils, and various parts in the electronics industry.

    Bohler Label - X

Body: 35HRC / 40 HRC / 45HRC Edge: 55 HRC / 58 HRC Thicknesses: 1.3 Heights (Based on Thickness): 8mm, 9.5mm, 12mm Description Label-X, the new generation label cutting rule, is perfect for the die cutting of labels due to its excellent cutting performance, superfine cutting bevel, and super sharp cutting edge. Three versions offer the perfect cutting solution for any material in the label industry. LXS has the focus on extreme bendability with a reduced body hardness. LXH takes aim at maximum service life and stability due to its increased body and edge hardness. LX represents the ideal compromise between LXS and LXH.
    • Hardness options – LXS (soft), LX (std), LXH (hard)
    • Ultrafine cutting bevel
    • Ultra-sharp cutting edge
    • Perfect cut quality
    • Reduced friction in die cutting
    • Premium knife service life
    • Tight height tolerances
    • Ideal for paper labels, metallized labels, foils, films/foils in electronics industry

    Bohler Plast - X

Body: 35HRC / 40 HRC / 45HRC Edge: 57 HRC / 59 HRC Thicknesses: 1.3 / 1.5 / 2 / 3 Heights (Based on Thickness): .929 and .937 Description Plast-X is a Bohler innovation to cut PET, PE, PVC, PP, blister packs and thermoplastic materials. By applying technology from razor blade manufacturing, this rule drastically improves die cutting performance. Plast-X is available in three versions. PXS has the focus on best bendability. PXH offers the best knife service life due to increased body and edge hardness. PX is the ideal compromise between PXS and PXH.

    • Blocks used to align stripping units with the cutting die on Centerline press systems
    • Several sizes/colors available
  • Coated cutting rule provides various benefits, such as; reduced dusting, extended service life, and less wear on cutting edge and bevel.

    Supreme – Bohler Rule

Supreme coating was developed for the die cutting of labels to prevent glue from sticking to the rule bevel.  It was soon discovered that the coating had many benefits beyond labels. Many customers experience reduced dusting when using Supreme coated cutting rules in folding carton applications due to lower edge/bevel friction, while simultaneously the rule lifetime is extended.  The cutting bevel of the Supreme rule is coated with a thin anti-friction-film, which fills the microscopically small pores and marks on the cutting edge, ultimately adding smoothness to the bevel surface. Supreme coated rules are only offered in Universal and Universal 60.
    • Reduces friction between cutting edge and cut material
    • Dust-reduced cutting
    • Reduction of press force

Tinit (TiN) – Bohler & Viking Rule

TiN coated cutting rule is coated with a thin TiN layer of approx. 0.002 mm on the cutting bevel only. The TiN coating hardness with 2,400 HV stands out in comparison with standard Universal edge hardness of 640 HV (4 times harder). Bendability, body structure, cutting profile, and dimensions remain unchanged to match the standard Universal rules.
    • Significantly increased knife life
    • Productivity gains due to fewer die changes
    • Same bendability as uncoated cutting rules
    • Reduced dusting due to smoother bevel surface
    • Increased wear resistance when cutting abrasive materials

    Molykote – Viking Rule

Based on a special coating process, a thin Molykote film adheres to the cutting bevel filling the small pores providing a smooth edge surface.
    • Best suited for cutting self-adhesive materials
    • Cuts with low formation of dust
    • Minimization of friction between the bevel and the material being cut
