Edge-Hardened Cutting Rules

Edge-hardened rules offer high-frequency or laser hardened tips which result in extended service life and reduced tip wear. These rules are available in shaved, ground, and polished bevels.

Viking HP

Body: 34 / 40 / 44 / 47 / 51HRC
Edge: 60HRC
Thicknesses: 1.5 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 6
Heights (Based on Thickness): .315 (8mm), .375 (9.5mm), .394 (10mm), .473 – 3.937

Description

HP is ideal for a wide range of substrates.  The hardened edge results in less wear and longer rule life in the cutting process even against the toughest, most rigid materials.  In situations that call for an even harder edge, HP+, which boasts a 64HRC edge, is also available.   The 34 and 40 body hardness are the most common and most readily available.

  • Edge-hardened by a special plasma hardening process
  • Highest possible lifetime of the die due to the cutting edge hardness of 60 HRC
  • For high to extremely high production run
  • Reduces dust in the cutting process
  • Optimized for tight bends
  • HP+ even harder variant of the HP with 67 HRC edge hardness, on request
  • Similar rules include; Bohler Universal and Helmold Lazerblade in a 34 body, and Bohler Universal Extra in a 40 body

Helmold LazerBlade

Body: 34 HRC
Edge: 57 HRC
Thicknesses: 1.5 / 2 / 3 / 4
Heights: .500 – .937

Description

LazerBlade is an edge hardened rule that offers a softer body with a hardened-edge, making it very useful for many applications. This rule would be commonly used in packaging, folding carton, and kiss-cutting applications.

  • Edge Hardened – Medium Hard
  • Medium – High volume runs
  • Long life and extremely versatile
  • Ideal for paperboard, boxboard, folding carton, laminated materials, recycled stock, corrugated, and plastic corrugated
  • Similar rules include; Bohler Universal and Viking HP in a 34 body

Viking HP MicroTop

Body: 34 / 40HRC
Edge: 60HRC
Thicknesses: 2 / 3
Height: .937
Bevel Angle: 42° / 75° or 54° / 75°

Description

MicroTop cutting rule combines HP plasma hardening with the advantages of a higher bevel strength, and an increased resistance to deformation through a special bevel geometry. Due to the special micro bevel, a harmonic and uniform pressure distribution at the top of the cutting edge is achieved. This uniform pressure leads to lower pressure and a higher edge durability compared to the common center bevel.  The result of using MicroTop is reduced angel hair and dust, even during very long production runs.

  • Improved pressure distribution
  • Rule bevel geometry is less sensitive to high cutting pressure
  • Save make-ready time
  • Longer rule life
